Modelling Fibre reinforced polymer jacket in Fem design

Any idea how one would go about modelling a column with FRP jacket in FEM-design API?

I wish to test added stiffness in the column and visualize stress distribution in the column.

How would i ensure that the column and jacket interacts. Having done the design for the picture below by modelling the colum (bar.column) and the jacket (modelled as a shell wall) the jacket has zero implication to the results.

Maybe you suggest an alternative workflow.

Hi @RSBNO !

Attaching shell models to beam models is very hard. Maybe you can do rigid surface which models column outer surface and line connection to rigid surface to beam. However I think this only works well if stress of column is uni-directinal. But attaching beam to beam works well topologically. I think FEM-D calculation engine is OK with overlaping beams. So one beam is column and second is jacket. Please see attached pictures (now material is different):

Appreciate your input - I made it work through modelling the jacket as a beam.

Simple solution is usually the best. Not allways but usually.
